Turn Fridays Into Your Creative Vacation

What would you create if you didn’t consider the business of creating?

The ask is simple — turn Fridays into your free-for-all. Write the piece that didn’t fit into your creative calendar this week because it wouldn’t drive traffic. Spend the whole day brainstorming a project that may never see the light of day.

Give yourself the day off, but don’t take the day off. Instead, use it as a reminder that you love creativity for the sake of creativity.

You may not be able to do this every single Friday, but I encourage you to budget at least one Friday a month to the art of fun. It’ll serve as a boundary of sorts. It’ll help ground you so that you don’t get stuck on the hamster wheel, which is really easy to get roped into. We all need money in order to keep pursuing our creative work, so don’t take time off at the expense of your bottom line. I’m asking instead to start working “creative fun” into your bottom line, so that when you do take that day off it doesn’t feel like stolen or borrowed time.

You want it to feel like time you own. You want it to feel like intentional time in the process of creativity for the sake of fun, art, and all you can create outside of the M-Th workflow.
