Two Of Creativity’s Biggest Motivators — Passion And Money
Give yourself permission to focus on both
We speak openly about creativity needing to be passion driven. There are books, TED talks, and workshops focused on everything from helping you find your passion to helping you harness the power it can come with.
But once we get people excited about pursuing their passions, we tend to leave them high and dry. We don’t talk about what it takes to run a creative business because “creativity isn’t about the money.” Except it is.
Making money allows you to be adventurous in your creative pursuits. It gives you room to play because your basic needs are being comfortably met.
We should make it a habit to speak more openly about creativity needing to be both passion and money driven because it’s the only way we’ll have healthy, well-rounded creatives who don’t feel the need to quit their creative passions out of necessity.
It starts by debunking the belief that to be a “good” creative you should not think about money. If your creativity is your day job, you should be thinking about money because what you’re running isn’t a hobby, it’s a business.
There is no shame in making money. There is no shame in making money off your creativity.
