Your Perception Of Yourself Is Coming Between You And Success

(And it doesn’t have to)

I have a hard time accepting not questioning my success or why I’m invited into certain rooms. We could probably date this back to gender norms or growing up Latinx, but we won’t, instead I’ll share what I do when I come to those crossroads.

I’m grateful to have cultivated a strong support network that can uplift me even when I can’t uplift myself. Often we think that in order to be creative we need to exist in a silo, but we don’t. Yes, our creative skillset may only lend itself to one person chiseling at the sculpture at a time, but our creative morale? That takes a village to upkeep.

I also try my best to point to the lie in the story I’m telling myself. It’s okay if you, like me, have to sometimes admit that your perception of yourself is coming between you and success. It isn’t an indicator that you’re any less worthy of that success, I think in essence it’s just a byproduct of being human during a time when the comparison game is an actual coined phrase.

We all navigate the ups and downs of telling ourselves we’re not good enough, the real trouble arises whenever we convince ourselves to believe in the lie. It may sound fear-inducing, but the best you can do is callout the shameful reasoning out loud and to someone…
