Today Isn’t The Day You Give Up

Listen, let’s start with words you maybe haven’t heard lately — you’re not supposed to be an expert at your craft, you’re supposed to be a student of your craft.

Also, the world will never stop asking too much of us. Each member within our immediate sphere has expectations that are most likely motivated by their own needs and less by your clearly stated skillset, process, or bandwidth. Your job isn’t to meet their expectations at your own expense. It doesn’t matter what hustle culture says.

Your job is to not let their expectations push you so far past your boundaries that you think giving up is your only way to make it to bedtime.

Today isn’t the day you give up.

Today’s the day you remind yourself that showing up is the only part of your creative process you truly have control over. You can sit at the desk. You can stand behind a camera. You can stand in front of a camera and learn a dance taught to you by a 14-year-old.

Maybe creativity hits or maybe it’s a day you lean on your skillsets. Maybe it looks like writing a chapter or just a really hodgepodge paragraph.

But, since your worth isn’t attached to the metrics that measure your creativity, you get to show up every day not just on the ones with good KPIs. This is…
