Take Back The First 30 Minutes Of Your Day
You may not even know you gave them up
What do you do first thing in the morning?
I had a habit of picking up my phone, turning off my alarm, and diving straight into an app. Whenever the first 30 minutes of my morning weren’t consumed by my phone, they were consumed by worry, stress, or fear.
A few days ago I started taking those first few minutes back. I don’t solve world hunger or even the trickiest parts of my to-do list, but I do reclaim peace and an opportunity to hang out with myself.
I’ve laid in bed talking to God, the Universe, or whoever’s listening. I’ve done yoga. I went on a walk through a new-to-me part of our neighborhood. I turned to my boyfriend and said “hey” like he matters to me more than my phone does because he does.
Technology is awesome, but being so connected threatens to disconnect us from the possibility of starting our days without feeling immediately judged or overwhelmed. It can also hinder your ability to create something meaningful later in the day or to be productive at all.
How many times have you arrived at your computer, easel, or post-it notes and realized you’re already stressed and haven’t even started yet?
