So You Want To Be A Ghostwriter?
Here’s what you need to know
I started ghostwriting unintentionally. My first go at writing copy for someone else’s brand was as a social media copywriter. Over the years I decided to move away from social media copy writing and turn instead to long form writing both under my byline and as a ghost.
After writing regularly on health sites about mental health and on Forbes around entrepreneurship, others began approaching me with a potential to help them craft their own stories. Their offers were a breath of fresh air particularly because their areas of expertise were so far from my own. They gave my mind a break, while still helping me strengthen my writing skills.
Now, almost 8 years after I took on my first ghostwriting client, I’ve branched out to both ghostwriting for thought leaders and storytelling coaching for those whose budgets may be a bit smaller, but who still want that added support.
Here are some of the key things I’ve learned while ghostwriting that may help you on your journey.
Be a good ghost
Don’t disclose the client unless they say they’re okay with it. There are still ways to prove that you’re a good writer (see below) without disclosing all the pieces you helped someone else write. I heard this line from a mutual…
