Pursuing Your Passion Isn’t About Being Ready, It’s About Being Willing

A pep talk for your creativity

I’ve been hunched over my computer a lot lately. Writing has always felt like a busy, but solitary activity. I am by myself with so many thoughts. I am ready to create and also to be okay with parting ways with ideas or sentences that don’t work.

This time at the computer really got me thinking about the moments in my life when writing or creating have felt the hardest. They all have the negative self-talk in common, but they also have this feeling I held that I had to be “ready” for sitting down to create.

Pursuing your passion — and creating something from that feeling — doesn’t require a magic green light though, it just requires your willingness to go.

Turning to anything other than our own willingness leaves too much to chance. Sparks of genius do happen, but they don’t strike all the time. They strike once and expect you to build on that idea until the next big moment comes around. Learning to love the process of pursuing your passion ensures that you’re tied to whatever you’re creating every day, not just some days.

It’s a gift really. It makes every day magical and it it required you only sitting down and trying in order to be that magical.
